PIG SUPERVISORS CONFER AT RUAKURA
The annual conference of district pig council supervisors held at Ruakura recently was an outstanding success. Supervisors representative of all districts ift the Dominion were present and they were able to take back with them valuable new information gleaned from the informative talks given by officers of the Ruakura and Wallaoeyille animal research' stations. A feature of the' conference was the lengthy discussion devoted to pig improvement work and how it could be expanded for the benefit of the farmer. Pig diseases were exhaustively dealt with by the various speakers, one of the highlights being a lecture on suipestifer, a disease that has been causing some concern to Waikato producers this season. The lecture was given by Mr S. Jocelyn, of Wallaceville, who has been appointed to make a full time investigation of this disease. The object of the annual -pig supervisors’ conference is to obtain in-, formation on latest scientific developments so it can then be used to advantage in the supervisors’ routine work. This annual conference, therefore, is an excellent means of passing on information from the research stations to the farmers themselves. The supervisors at this year’s conference were keenly interested in the film on pig production that was produced by the Waikato Pig Council and the hope was expressed that copies of the film would be made available to other pig councils.
