Batsman Struck Dead
As batsman Ronald Edwards, 19-years-old holiday maker, from Treorchy, Glamorganshire, dashed up to the wickets to score a run at Gulval, Cornwall, there was a mighty red flash. .. Lightning had hit his bat. He fell, killed instantly, his clothes smoking, and his shirt burnt off. “Something seemed to explode in his bat,” said another player, John Bridgeman. “The flash seemed to envelop the whole field. Electricians in our team warned us not to touch Edwards. After- the flash, our ears were singing and the ground where Edwards lay was black.”
