Not Tet Eligible Some of the aspirants for Auckland Cup honours are not yet eligible to start. A condition of the race is the acceptors must have won a stake of £SOO or more. Ascot Lad Sore The consistent Ascot Lad, by Coronach—Lady Brierly, who has been kept up to his work for many weeks, is now showing. signs of soreness. This means that he may not be required to compete so soon as the tracks become to firm. An Exhibition Gallop During the course of the Woodville meeting on Saturday the champion Kindergarten was given an exhibition gallop of once round on the plough. He skipped over the final three furlongs in 36 seconds, a phenomally great sprint with the loose soil fully three inches deep. It is reported that he pulled up sound, and even after cooling down did not show any signs of soreness. He is in the care of the Dannevirke owner, L. Breakwell, whose chance of winning a race with him are at least fairly bright. Re-Commissioned Master Meruit,. New Zealand’s most successful cross country candidate of two seasons ago, has been re-commissioned at Hastings. He is to be taken along steadily with next winter’s steeplechases in view. A Fancied Candidate Foxwyn, the 1945 winner of the Auckland Cup, is executing exceptionally good work on the Te Rapa tracks. On Saturday with the poles out 17ft. he scamped over six furlongs in 1.14, the last four occupying 49 l-ssecs. He is nicely weighted in this year’s £IO,OOO event at 8.12, and is already one of the leading favourites. Retired From The Turf The successful Hawke’s Bay galloper, Ramicourt, has been retired from the turf, and his owner, Mr Frank Ormond, has presented him to a friend as a lady’s,hack. A Leading Stake Winner Stakes won to date by Beau le Havre amount to £13,690, the result of 12 wins, one second and three thirds in 24 starts. It is quite on the cards that this fine total will be materially increased within the next few weeks. An Early Favourite Thus early Mr J. Clothier’s Double Chance is the principal selection for the Queen’s Plate to be decided at Ellerslie on Boxing Day. A Promising Performer Mr T. C. Lowry’s imported galloper, Sun Burn, a winner recently at Levin and Napier Park, is to be a contestant in hack events at the Auckland Summer Meeting. Speed To Spare Beauform has been displaying brilliant speed at Awapuni, and is very highly thought of by track watchers. He is by Beaulivre from Inform, a full sister to the New Zealand Cup victor, Classform.
A Cup Rider It is understood that Beau le Havre is to be ridden in the Auckland Cup by lightweight H. N. Wiggins, his usual rider W. Connor, having expressed the wish to stand down on the occasion as in his opinion the Auckland jockeys are more conversant with the Ellerslie wavy course. The selection of Wiggins is probably quite a good one, but as he rides at 7.3 and the horse has been allotted 9.11 something like 361bs will be. carried as dead weight.
