Council Sworn In On Monday Night
Monday night saw the first meeting of the newly-elected Whakatane Borough Council. The Mayor presided over Crs W. Sullivan, J. Creeke, C. S. Armstrong, R. T. Morpeth, K. Needham, E. R. Dillicar, H. G. Warren and R. S. Buttimore. The town clerk, Mr L. D. Lovelock, electrical engineer, Mr F. W. Lysaght and foreman engineer, Mr W. S. Henderson, were in attendance. Following the formal swearing in of the Mayor and Councillors, the Mayor, Mr B.' S. Barry, congratulated the old Councillors on their return. Mr Barry said Re took'thenposition at the polls as a vote of confidence in the old Council. He offered a cordial welcome to the new members and expressed the hope that their term of office would be a happy one.
The Mayor’s honorarium was fixed at £l5O.
