Limited Amount Of Baling Wire And Twine
It is fully realised the inconvenience caused to farmers by the shortages of baling wire and twine. It is pleasing to note however, that there will be a slight easing of the position by the importation of baling twine from England, and baling wire from Czechoslovakia.
The Minister of Agriculture has stated that New Zealand manufacture will be 450 tons of twine and an importation of 150 tons from England; 400 tons of baling wire for almost immediate delivery from Czechoslovakia. In effect then, throughout the Dominion' there should be approximately 1,000 tons of baling wire and twine available for distribution.
It is understood that instructions have been given to distributors that baling twine be distributed as fairly as possible and there is the suggestion that this be on the basis of 15 cwt., per machine. The wire from Czechoslovakia will of course, be serviced to those machines which can use only wire.
