Appreciation Of Galway Guild Parcels: Letter From Worcester City

Appreciation of the last lot of parcels sent from Whakatane by the Lady Galway Guild is expressed in the following letter from a Women’s Voluntary Services worker in Worcester City, England, to Mrs Moran, Victoria Avenue, Whakatane, who was one of the Guild’s most prominent workers here:— Dear Mrs Moran and Friends, It was a great delight to have a letter from you, and to know something of the very kind group of ladies who have worked so hard for the Galway Guild all through

the war, and to whom we are so greatly indebted. A lot of our members are not as young as they once were, indeed several .of them are over 70. I am quite a young one, only 47! but if a woman is as old as she feels I’m often a whole lot older!

It isn’t a very easy time just now for the older folk, for shopping is difficult, buses always seem to be full, you have to stand in queues for food that isn’t rationed, and it’s quite a job to make the food and clothing coupons last out, but people are still cheerful, and I’m sure the ‘bull dog spirit’ will win through in the end.

All through the dark days of war it made, just all the difference to us all to know that friends overseas were helping, and thinking of us, and when these wonderful parcels arrived it made us very humble and grateful to think of all the love and care and hard work that had been given by people who had never even seen us.

Our newest job in W.V.S. is knitting and sewing in our spare time at home to make things for export. Everything is concentrated on the Export Drive at present, and next week we are having an Exhibition of Women in Industry so as to try and recruit more women into the factories, so that means lots of things for W.V.S. to do to help the housewife and her children, so that home life does not suffer.

Give warmest greetings please to your splendid team, and the best of wishes to you all from all of us.
