Fields Instructor’s Talk To Waimana Young Farmers

At the November meeting of the Waimana Young Farmers’ Club there were 13 members present. Mr E. R. Marryatt, Fields Instructor, identified weeds brought by members and gave a lecture on certified seeds. Mr Marryatt stressed the importance of a purchaser of grass seed knowing the exact germination, purity, moisture content and the number of weed seeds per ounce in a mixture. Several examples were given of seed mixtures. Should a purchaser be in doubt of a seed mixture, Mr Marryatt said the necessary information would be given by a Department of Agriculture seed testing station approximately 21 days after a sample had been forwarded. After the lecture the business portion of the meeting was held. It was decided to have the same three members as last year to judge the calves at the Waimana and Nukuhou schools’ calf club field day. Several suggestions were put forward on how to raise funds for the National Memorial Fund. One remit is to be sent •in to the district secretary .to be brought up at the next district committee meeting.
