Unlicensed Radio Sets Prosecuted by the Police, pn the information of the P. & T. department, before Mr E. L. Walton S.M. in the Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, Sonny Davis and William Whiteside both pleaded guilty to operating unlicensed radio receiving sets. Each was fined £1 and costs. Subscription Too High
In view of the fact that it was felt that 5/- a head membership of the Associated Chambers of Commerce was too large a proportion of the annual subscription of £l/1/-, the Whakatane Chamber of Commerce decided last night to resign, its membership of the larger body.. It is intended to retain friendly relations and to offer a donation to further its work.
“Borrowed” Bicycle When Rangikaha Tawaka left his job at Taneatua last week without giving notice, he “borrowed” a bicycle belonging to his .employer without’seeking permission, took on a job at the Paper Mills and neglected to return the machine. Before Mr E. L. Walton S.M. on Tuesday the police charged him with unlawful conversion. There was no defence offered, and the Magistrate sentenced Tawaka to 14 days’ gaol.
