Soldier Who Refused Pay

Momo Katsina promised his dying father that he would give his services to Britain free. So he joined the Royal West African Frontier Force. When Pte. Katsina was demobbed he caused consternation by refusing his gratuity and back pay, the total amounting to £4l 13s 6d. His account showed that he had drawn only £4 5s 6d pay throughout his service. Momo declared that he wished to give assistance to the King. He would like his ‘money spent as his General thought fit, on condition it went to the people of England who had suffered during the war. It has gone to the Lord Mayor’s Air Raid Distress Fund, London.
