Mr N. Hockin, popular captain of the Whakatane Golf Club, has resigned. His decision was accepted with regret by the annual meeting on Wednesday night.
A very enjoyable social evening organised by the Tauranga Branch of the New Zealand Labour Party was held last Thursday evening in honour of Hon. B. C. Robbins, M.L.C., and Mrs Robbins, on the occasion of the former’s 91st birthday.
Captain A. G. Hardy, New Plymouth manager for the Waterfront Industry Commission, has been appointed manager of the Northern Steamship Co., Ltd., Auckland. He will begin his new duties on January 5. After a career at sea Captain Hardy was secretary-manager of the Opunake Harbour Board and then secretary of Mokau Collieries Ltd., before joining Hooker Bros., Ltd., customs agents, which he left for the present post.
