Retains His Speed Sleepy Fox is to contest the Avondale Challenge Stakes. That he still maintains his brilliant speed is being proved at Takanini, where he is bowling along over six furlongs in lmin. 14secs., after scampering over the first three in 34 3-ssecs. It would appear that his opponents at Avondale will have to be real flyers to head him off.
Kindergarten Again Owner-trainer, L. C. Breakwell, of Dannevirke, who* is successfully racing Trig Point and Grey Morn, and who has quite a reputation for patching up crippled thoroughbreds, is now trying his hand on the N.Z. champion galloper, Kindergarten, who last season proved untrainable consequent upon an injured joint. There is therefore a sporting chance that Kindergarten may again grace the turf he has previously adorned. Sale Rates
*The winning form as shown at the NeW Zealand Cup meeting, is sure to have an important bearing on the rates to be realised at the January National Sales. Her Favourite Course
The Bulandshar mare Soneri, has registered eight wins in as many starts at Riccarton and naturally she is a great favourite with Canterbury turf patrons. A race that should prove a special attraction this year is the Churchill Stakes in which the brilliant galloper is to meet the first flighter, Beau le Havre. The First Of The Probations
Jacquinor Bay, |he first of the Probations to win, prevailed in the Juvenile Handicap at Napier Park last week. She won very easily and is expected .to race prominently during the holiday fixtures. A Surprise Victory The Theio colt, Thimble, winner of the Wellington Guineas, caused a racing surprise by emerging victorious in the Manchester Handicap at Napier Park,* running the mile and a quarter in 2min. 4 3-ssees, which is only a fraction over the track record. King’s Ransom Although a non-acceptor for the N.Z. Cup, King’s Ransom is to contest shorter events at the meeting, including the Metropolitan Handicap.
Winning Account Opened Sunburn, imported from England by Mr T. C. Lowry, of Hawke’s Bay, won races at Levin and Napier Park. He is a remarkably well set-up colt that ’next season should race prominently in important middle distance events.
