“Dabbled In Bookmaking To Fill In Time”

When accosted by the Police in the Strand on Saturday, Harry Matthew Stowell admitted taking “doubles” on a race meeting. It cost him a 20 fine in the Police Cour at Whakatane yesterday when he pleaded guilty to a charge of loitering for the purpose of betting. To Messrs C. G. Lucas and I. B. Hubbard, J’s P., he offered the explanation that he was working on a 40-hour week and “merely dabbled in bookmaking to fill in his time.”
