Land Settlement Scheme For Young Farmers?
General business discussed at the October meeting of the Thornton branch of Young Farmers’ Club included the question of scholarships to Massey and Lincoln Agricultural Colleges, and a suggested tour of North Taranaki by members of the club. The report of the 13th annual general meeting of the N.Z. Council of Federated Young Farmers Clubs was read & the various figures indicating amounts sent in for the National Memorial Fund were noted with interest. It was reported that a system of land setlement similar to the Soldiers’ Rehabilitation Scheme was being decided by Young Farmers’ Club members. This was also noted with interest. A report on the Auckland r j Mr R. H. Cieland, delegate to the Pig Marketing Association, gave a report on the meeting held on September 19 discussing a possibility of a Primary Producers’ Co-operative Society. The main event of the meeting was when Mr Brendon Newton gave a report on tire time he spent while attending a course at Feilding. The camp was held in -the Feilding Jockey Club’s buildings where 62 members of Young Farmers Clubs attended, coming from as far north as Whangarei, and as far south as Timaru. included visits to well-known agricultural and s stud farms, Massey College, the Feilding Agricultural High School, a freezing works and factories of interest to farmers. In short, the boys had a chance to look over most points of farming interest in the Manawatu. '
