Aliens In N.Z.
Of a total of 6565 aliens registered in New Zealand at May 31 this year over half, or 54 per cent., were living in the Auckland and Wellington urban areas, according to the Abstract of Statistics for August. The concentrations in the Dominion’s two largest cities accounted for there being 85 per cent, of the registered aliens in the North Island. Chinese were by far the most numerous racial group in the registered aliens, with a total of .2617, consisting of 2222 males and 395 females. Yugoslavs were next, with 923, and Americans third, with 572. Other large groups were 421 Poles and 414 Germans, while there were 305 Italians, 174 Danes, 141 Dutch, 137 Swiss, 133 Greeks, 116 Norwegians and 112 French. Russians totalled 40, and there were also 17 people from Estonia, eight from Latvia and three from Lithuania. Of 39 people shown as Stateless, 20 were listed as having been born in Austria.
