Much-Needed Facilities In a letter to the annual meeting of the Whakatane Winter Show Association on Tuesday night, the Inspector of Health pointed out that sanitary accommodation at the show building was inadequate. He said if it was a fact that the building was, to be moved early next year the matter could wait until then, but otherwise facilities must be provided on the existing site.

Food For London Children The Federation of N.Z. Justices Associations has undertaken a campaign to raise funds to send food to children in London. The parcels will be distributed to the most needy cases by the London Magistrates’ Association. Mr G. I. Banks, Bank Chambers Tauranga,' is receiving subscriptions from Justices and others interested, by arrangement of the Bay of Plenty Association, which endorses this endeavour to alleviate the hardships of the children of London.

Social Security Charge In this issue appears an intimation from the Commissioner of Taxes that an instalment of the Social Security Charge on income other than salary or wages derived during the year ended 31st March, 1947 falls due on November 1, and that a 10 per cent, penalty will be incurred on amounts not paid within one month of the due, date. Attention is also directed to the fact that employers who fail to deduct and duly account for wages-tax in respect of all wages.paid, including Amounts paid to casual employees engaged on a time, piece-work or contract basis, render themselves liable to severe penalties.
