COMBINED BREEDS SALE The Combined Breeds Sale of pedigree Ayrshires and Friesians was held on account of local breeders at the A. and P. Showgrounds, Whakatane, on September 30. Top price of the sale was 47J guineas, paid by Mr P. Savage, Opotiki, for the yearling Ayrshire bull Aotea Monarch offered by Mr A. H. Adams. This yearling was by the Ardgj /an bred sire, from Abergeldie Miss Nell, with 50 consecutive good herd test records. The five yearling Ayrshire heifers offered by Mr Adams met with steady competition, the best pi-ice being 35 guineas, and purchased by Mr H. W. Shaw, Pongakawa, Te Puke. Another was purchased by Mr Shaw at 21 guineas, while Messrs. A. P. Baker and Sons, Te Puke, purhased two at 28 and 30 guineas each. The best price”" for Friesian bulls was 30 guineas for a yearling offered on account of Mr J. L. Murray, Otakiri; and purchased by Mr J. H. Jamieson, He Teko. This yearling is the son of the great show bull Athol Winston and Athol Nymph, V.H.C, 9 consecutive records and almost certain to qualify for “Elite” Certificate Lifetime Merit Register this season. \ Other principal • sales were:— Lot 10: 2 year Ayrshire Bull, E. Lot 19: Yearling Friesian Bull, G. R. Murray to J. C. White, Whakatane, 20gns.
Lot 26: Yearling Ayrshire Bull, Dr. F. J. Appleby to W. E. Goldsmith, Edgecumbe, 21gns. Lot 27: Yearling Friesian Bull, J. L. Murray to G. Sykes, Taneatua, 20gns.
Lot 30: Yearling Ayrshire Bull, A H. Adams to W. G. Gow, 20gns. The sale was conducted by Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co. Ltd.
