Half-Yearly Review Of W.I. Federation Activity
With a new president and executive committee, this year has opened auspiciously for the Eastern Bay of Plenty Federation of Women’s Institutes, says the bi-annual report, just released for publication. This year is notable for the fact that centralisation of Council meetings, which was adopted as a war measure, has been cancelled.
The institutes of this federation, always keen drama enthusiasts, were given a further incentive this year with the visit of the Drama Tutor, Mrs Roseanne Rutherford. At the end of their courses groups staged performances in their home districts. Next year it has been decided to hold the Home and Public sections of the Eisteddfod on separate dates. The Home Section has been enlarged and it is proposed to stage it as an Institute Show in the Winter Show Buildings at Whakatane.
This year there are two new Voluntary Organisers, Mrs Caverhill and Mrs Wylde, ‘ whilst Mrs Brown and Mrs Withy continue to give excellent service.
The report welcomes the Galatea and Te Whaiti Institutes back into the Federation, but records with regret that Te~ Kaiiarlras -gong- -into_. recess.
Next year a visit from a dressmaking tutor is being arranged, and efforts are being made to obtain a tutor for a school of arts and crafts.
