Ohope Suggested For Christmas Swimming Sports

The suggested swimming sports to be conducted at the Heads by the Whakatane Amateur Swimming Club over the carnival period at Xmas were discounted at the annual meeting of the club. Mr McLay asked why the Ohope pool could not be used. Mr Stenhouse said that Mr Mahy Snr. had been contacted regarding the use of the pool on a previous occasion but permission would apparently only be granted for the pool’s use by children under 14.

Just who was the ruling voice in the control of the pool seemed hard to ascertain.

Messrs. McLay and Stenhouse were authorised to enquire into the matter and to report back. A carnival at the Heads was “out” for three reasons, tides, no pool suitable and the fact that the proposed date was a working day. The club offered instead to organise a children’s picnic.
