Murder Statistics Sought
Information of considerable topical interest in view of the number of crimes of violence in New Zealand during recent years was sought in the House of Representatives by Mr J. R. Marshall (Opposition—Mt. Victoria). He moved for' a return, showing:—
1. The number of cases of murder, attempted murder, and suspected murder committed each year in New Zealand since September 17, 1941, the date of the abolition of the death sentence. .2. The number of charges laid and the number of convictions secured in such cases. 3. Corresponding figures for each of the six years prior to September 17, 1941.
