Taneatua School Building Not Available For Ohope

Advice that the old school building at Taneatua would not be available for use at Ohope was received by the school committee on Wednesday. The bpard enquired whether the main church building would be available as they had believed and said that if sufficient accommodation could not' be found it would not be possible to go ahead with plans for a separate school at Ohope. Mr Wilson thought the Board had the wrong conception as the committee had correspondence which said that the main building would have to be vacated. Messrs. Paterson and Mahy were appointed to take the matter up with the church committee and the Ohope Progress League.

Financial

Accounts totalling £l9 16s 2d were passed for payment. A comparison in the electricity accounts with a corresponding period last year showed a 50 per cent, increase.

It was decided to charge the night classes for a portion of the accounts received while they were using the buildings. New Cycle Racks

It was decided to erect racks to hold 90 cycles. Mr Hubbard said that at present hundreds of pounds worth of cycles were lying around in heaps. The old fence in Lovelock Street is to be demolished and a new racecourse type substituted. Telephone Communication

A request from the Headmaster that the committee attempt to acquire additional telephone equipment will be looked into. Mr Lysaght- stressed the difficulty of obtaining telephones at present. Roll Figures The roll figures given in the Headmaster’s report were: Secondary department 215, middle school 362, infants 200, Ohope side school 51, Hospital side school 17, a total of 845. Visiting Committee Messrs. Whittaker and Paterson were appointed visiting committee. The meeting was attended by Messrs. W. S. Wilson' (chair), J. H. Duthie (secretary), F. Clark (treasurer), F. W. Lysaght, W. Armstrong, G. Mahy and D. Paterson. Apologies were received from Messrs. Dainton and Whittaker.
