TELEPHONE SERVICE
GALATEA-MURUPARA AREA
IMPROMPTU AND IMPORTANT
‘Another growing pain of GalateaMurupara is diagnosed and treated. To mention the word “telephones” to a resident of either of these districts can be likened to the quick tearing of sticking plaster from a chronic wound. It hurts !
But there’s hope for .the long suffering community. At a quick gatherng of a fair cross section of Muru-para-Galatea residents on Wednesday, October 1, Mr W. L. Seaton, Overseer of the Rotorua Post and Telegraph Department, discussed the probability of the installation of telephones throughout the two districts, and the possible location of an exchange. Representatives who met Mr Seaton included: Mrs Dykstra, Messrs. D. Turnbull, J. Cawte, W. Wilson, F. Neville, M. N. Stunell, H. Bird. After supplying information as to present householders etc., and rough details of areas to be opened up in the future, for later consideration; all present expressed unanimously their desire to keep the Post Office at Murupara, and continue with the Rural delivery service, regardless of the eventual position of the exchange. Both localities have been battling for several years for this amenity and it appears that something may eventuate in the near future.
A special link-up has just given Murupara an independant line through to Rotorua.
