R.S.A. MEETING HELD

SUB-BRANCH FORMED

A meeting of Waimana Returned Servicemen was held in the Waimana Hall recently, for the purpose of deciding whether a sub-branch, be formed of the Whakatane County Returned Services Association.

The meeting was well attended by the local returned servicemen, and also present were representatives of the Whakatane and Opotiki County Returned Services Executive Committees. Mr J. Cain was voted to the cjiair for the meeting. The chairman then welcomed all, and the visitors. Mr Brown, chairman of the Whakatane R.S.A., was asked to address the meeting on the principles of the Associations, and * Mr Baigent, chairman of the Opotiki Branch, also spoke. After hearing what the visitors had to say, it was decided to form a sub-branch in Waimana. The following officers- were elected:—Chairman: Mr C. R. White; vice-chairman: Mr J. 'L. Burnett; secretary-treasurer: Mru J. Cain; executive committee: chairman, vicechairman, secretary-treasurer, Mr A. Macdonald; committee Mr E. McGillivray, Mr F. Sterling, Mr L. Macdonald, Mr C. Boynton, Mr F. Mitchell.

The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the visitors and . the chair.

TENNIS OPENING

The Waimana Tennis Club opened its tennis courts for the season last Saturday. There was a large crowd of players present. Visiting players were present from several other clubs. All were welsomed by Mr D. Woolfield, president, who wished them an enjoyable afternoon’s tennis.A Yankee Tournament was held, and the winners were:— Ladies: Miss Lois Moore (Whakatane) 1, Miss Ann Cranswick 2. Men: Mr Sadd (Wainui) 1, Mr N. Eagle .2. . , A most enjoyable afternoon tea was served by the ladies, and at the conclusion of the afternoon, members of the visiting clubs, expressed their appreciation at being present on the occasion of such a pleasant afternoon’s tennis and extended an invitation to Waimana members to attend their tennis openings where possible.
