SCOUT CONCERT
BRIGHT THORNTON PROGRAMME
A very enjoyable evening took place in the Thornton Hall recently, when Scouts and Cubs of the local Troop and Pack entertained their parents and friends. The evening commenced with a short concert and dancing followed. A combined chorus of Scouts and Cubs, accompanied by Mrs Arbuckle sang the Troop Song, followed by an item by the Cubs, entitled “The Orchestra.” The Scouts then sang two songs, “Waltzing Matilda” and “Whistling Rufus,” the accompaniment being played by Mrs McDonald. Cub Rob Arbuckle rendered two piano solos, “The Comet” and as an encore “Rob Roy.” The Cubs 'presented a play, “The Little Mistake” which was well applauded. Another item which received a round of applause was a short sketch acted by Scouts George Adams and Peter Jackson. Scout Alan Currie then gave two piano solos, “Ave Maria” and “The Soldier March,” and the Cubs rendered two songs “Old MacDonald’s Farm” and “The Teddy Bears Picnic,” accompanied on the piano by their Akela. Scout Don Currie’s items, two piano solos “March Militaire” and “Choral Prelude” were well received as also was an item by S.M. Scott. A recitation by Mrs D. Branch and a very heartily applauded play <ir fhe Irish Way” ably acted by Miss Kathleen Adams and Messrs. Jack Jones and D. Currie, concluded the concert programme.
Music for dancing was supplied by several local pianists and by Piper Jim Law.
