GALATEA NEWS
PROPOSED NEW HALL (Own Correspondent) A very satisfied deputation from the Galatea Settlers’ Association walked out of the Whakatane County Office on Friday afternoon. The deputation, Mr J. Wilson, Mr Nicol and Mr Pratt, had waited on Mr Lucas, the County Clerk for information in regard to the possibility of having the County Council assist them in establishing a hall at Galatea. Mr Lucas’ information was vital and enlightening. He suggested various ways of attacking the problem, and gave an interesting insight into the preliminary work necessary, before the stage was reached when the matter could be placed before the Council. R.S.A. ‘Smoko’ The Murupara-Galatea R.S.A. Annual ‘Smoko’ held last week was a successful “do.” About thirty of the ‘boys’ turned up. In conjunction, a presentation also, was made to Mr N. C. Benson who is leaving the district. Mr Benson has always been a staunch friend of the R.S.A. and has given the use of his buildings on many occasions.
