NEWSPRINT SHORTAGE
81-WEEKLY BASIS NEXT WEEK NOTICE TO SUBSCRIBERS Commencing next week, the BAY OF PLENTY BEACON will assume a bi-weekly service until such time as the newsprint situation is relieved. Rationing of this all-important commodity has dictated the course indicated in order that the BEACON may survive over a particularly difficult and uncertain period. Under the existing system of control no allowance is made for normal expansion, and the company has been compelled for some years past to carry on under an allocation which was based on an early war-time circulation. In the face of further cuts in the newsprint supply, it has become absolutely necessary to return (we hope temporarily) f to the bi-weekly basis. The publication days will be Tuesday and Friday of each week and the paper will continue as a morning local paper going to press at approximately 9.30 a.m. Deliveries will continue through the normal channels as in the past. Advertisers are requested to have all casual advertisements in the office by 5 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays, while contract advertisers are asked to assist by still observing the twoday advance notice for ‘replaces.’ It is the intention of the management to keep readers and advertisers posted from time to time as the position eases or tightens in conformity with the overseas supply.
