W.I. GARDENING CIRCLE SEPTEMBER MEETING The members of the WaimanaNukuhou Women’s Institute Gardening Circle met at Mrs Hewitt’s home for the September meeting. The attendance was very good, and Mrs Wylde presided. After the reading of the minutes, Mrs Cooper read an interesting article on a runner-bean called Ferdenlosa, and t on saving Gerbera seeds. A memory test competition, consisting of a tray of articles used in gardening, was won by Mrs Wylde, with Mrs M. King and Mrs R. White equal for second. Mrs J. Mitchell explained the treatment of an asparagus bed. The competitions for the afternoon were very good, the low-bowls of flowers, were most attractive and the judges, Mrs Rust and Mrs Bull stated that their task of judging was very difficult. The results were as follows: Best flower: Mrs J. Mitchell (Daffodil) 1, Mrs Hewitt (Hyanthus) 2, Mrs Hughes (Anemone) 3. Best vegetable: Mrs J. Mitchell (Leek) 1, Mrs Hewitt (Rhubarb) 2, Mrs Hughes (Cauliflower) 3. Low-bowl flowers: Mrs C. Hampton 1, Mrs Wylde 2, Mrs M. King 3. After afternoon tea, members viewed the garden which was very neat and trim. Mrs Wylde then thanked Mrs Hewitt for the pleasant afternoon also the hostesses and judges for their work.
