KEEN FINISHES

HUNT CLUB’S POINT TO POINT ; MEETING AT TE TEKO Nearly a thousand people attended the first Point-to-Point » meeting inaugurated by the Whakatane Ward of the Opotiki Hunt Club last Saturday. The weather though overcast was fine and a splendid day of classy racing and close finishes resulted.

The club, though comparatively young, has experienced a very active year and the Te Teko meeting has marked a further milestone which it is hoped will become a popular annual fixture. The enthusiasm of the public was an outstanding feature of the day. Though there were many visiting riders there was a good sprinkling of local horsemen and the open jump, the most spectacular event, was won by G. Hill, with H. W. Sharp (the club’s hardworking secretary) second.

The club is to be warmly congratulated on the success of its first Point-to-Point. Members carried out their task as stewards and of staffing the grounds in splendid fashion. Their joint efforts has once again demonstrated the great interest in horse events and in riding generally in this district and again revives the suggestion of establishing a country race meeting at Te Teko. trict.
