WAIMANA NEWS
WOMEN’S 'INSTITUTE The September meeting of the Waimana-Nukuhou Women’s Institute was held recently. The attendance of members was very good and Mrs R. Looney presided. After the singing of the W.I. song, *Mrs R. White read the Aspirations, and Mrs Looney read the president’s letter from “Home and Country.” The remits for the forthcoming Council meeting were discussed and voted on. The two delegates appointed to attend the Council meeting at Waiotahi, were Mrs Looney and Mrs R. White. Three new members were welcomed, Miss A. Cranswick, Miss A. White and Mrs Clark. It was decided to have an exchange table as well as a sales table each month.
Food parcels are being sent each month to the Institute link in England.
The day’s competitions were very popular and following are the results:—
Double flower: Mrs Stevenson 1, Mrs I. Savage 2, Mrs F. Bell 3. Single flower: Mrs Stevenson 1, Mrs H. Bell 2, Mrs Hewitt 3. Vegetable: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs F. Bell 2, Mrs F. Savage 3. Shortbread: Mrs I. Savage 1, Mrs Hewitt 2, Mrs Wylde 3. Crocheted article in cotton: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs F. Bell 2, Mrs White 3.
After afternoon tea had been served by the hostesses, Mrs Looney thanked them, the judges and all who helped with the meeting.
The National Anthem closed the function.
