SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETS SCHOOL PATROLS PRAISED The monthly meeting of the Whakatane District High School Committee held on Wednesday was attended by Messrs. J. W. Wilson (chair), J. H. Duthie (secretary), G. Mahy, F. W. Lysaght, W. Whittaker, and G. H. Dainton. Apologies were received from Messrs. Armstrong
and Clarke. Electric Light The chairman said that he was sure the electric light accounts were higher than last year owing to the use of the school at night. A comparison will be made. School Patrols Mr Wilson said he was very pleased to see school patrols at the Domain Road crossing. He mentioned that favourable comments had been received and that the patrols were doing a good job. Financial Accounts totalling £6 18s lOd were passed for payment. Long Term Plan A letter was received from the Education Board asking the committee to forward a long term plan for the improving of school environment. The points outlined were playing and assembly areas, shelter and beautification. It was decided that the Headmaster and teachers should submit ideas to the committee so that the best might be selected. Accommodation The question of accommodation for teachers again cropped up. It was stated that a petition to the Board was being sponsored by the Parent-Teacher Association. This would be ready by the next meeting of the committee. The petition will be supported by the committee when it is forwarded to the Board. Visiting Committee Mr Dainton presented the report of the visiting committee. Messrs. Clarke and Duthie were appointed visiting committee for October. Headmaster’s Report In his report the Headmaster stated that the roll was as follows: Primary 564 Secondary 226 Ohope 49 Hospital 19 858
