Football Trip Cancelled The trip ,to Thames which the United Football Club had hoped to make possible, has had to be cancelled but negotiations are being carried out with Paeroa and it is hoped that a game will be available there. Bowling OpeningIt is understood that the Taneatua Bowling Club is holding its opening day on the last 'Saturday of this month. Whakatane will be commencing shortly but as yet the actual date has still to be decided. Food For Britain Total value of ration coupons received for the period Bth-13th September, 1947, was as follows: Butter lib; meat £5 8s 4d; sugar nil; tea nil; fats nil. Total value of ration coupons received to date is as follows: Butter 271-a-lbs; meat £261 12s 6d; sugar 231bs; tea 211bs.
School Text Books A suggestion from the New Zealand Educational Institute that the Government import suitable school text books and reference books has drawn from the Education Department the reply that the textbook shortage overseas is as bad as it is in New Zealand. The Education Department is producing text books, specially suited for local conditions, as quickly as possible. Meanwhile some’ education boards are doing their own importing of reference and other school books, but orders are slow to come to hand.
