WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MEETING AT MATATA The August meeting, of the Women’s Institute was held in the King’s Theatre. There was a large attendance of members present. The meeting opened with the singing of the Ode to Friendship and the read'? ing of the Aspirations. Two new members were enrolled. The occasion was regarded as Hospital Day. On August 19 Mrs Print gave a very interesting demonstration on leather work| The roll call for the month “What I should do if I caught Fire” was well responded to and some very good answers resulted. '
There were large entries in all the competitions. The meeting closed the singing of the National Anthem. A very nice afternoon tea was enjoyed by all, the hostesses for the day being Mrs Taylor and Mrs Dderge.
Competition results:— Best flower: Miss Burt I,‘ Margaret Conn 2, Mr Henderson 3. Best vegtable: Mrs Henderson 1, Mrs Bagley 2, Mrs Conn 3. Bowl for effect: Mrs Ansel 1, Mrs McGill 2, Mrs Smith 3. Sponge sandwich: Mrs Parkinson 1, Mrs Taylor 2, Mrs R. Withy 3. Best article for hospital use: Mrs R. Withy 1, Mrs Reichardt 2, Mrs E. Withy 3. '
