REGENT THEATRE
“BLOOD ON THE SUN” Sylvia Sidney, the enigmatic Mona Lisa with the wistful expression of a little girl dreaming in the rain, has enacted many different types of roles in the course of an active stage and screen career. As a Japanese maiden, a Southern hillbilly, a lovesick adolescent and a convict she has demonstrated a versatility which stands her in good stead now in her portrayal of Iris Hilliard, the Eurasian girl in the William Cagney picture, “Blood On The Sun.”
Directed by Frank Lloyd for United Artist release and co-starring Jimmy Cagney with Miss Sidney, “Blood On The Sun” will be shown at the Regent Theatre on Thursday and Friday. As Iris Hilliard, Miss Sidney is an intimate of such Japanese notables as the late Premier Baron Giichi Tanaka who drafted the infamous “Tanaka Memorial”— the Jap “Mein 'Kampf”—Colonel Tojo, subsequently Premier, and the late Admiral Yamamoto, who promised to “dictate peace terms in the White House.”
