WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MEETING AT EDGECUMBE The August meeting of the Edgecumbe Women’s Institute took the form of Members’ Day with Mrs Spiers as president and Mrs Pearse as secretary. There was a good attendance of members, and three new members, namely Mrs Ewan, Mrs Jensen and Mrs Hepburn were enrolled.
The meeting opened in the usual way and correspondence dealt with. Remits for the bi-annual Council meeting were thoroughly discussed. Mrs Burgess and Mrs J. Russell were nominated as delegates. Arrangements were made for the exchange of programmes with Otakiri. Mrs Watson and Mrs Hepburn were chosen as delegates for • the Drama Festival meeting. It was decided that the September meeting should be a “Busy Bee” day, each member to bring some sewing or knitting suitable for sending overseas.
During the social part of the programme Miss Ferguson san,g two de-
lightful songs, and was well applauded. Baby Spiers was presented with a bank .book, and several members were presented with birthday posies. A dainty afternoon tea was served by the hostesses and the meeting was brought to .a close by the singing of the National Anthem. Competition results were as follows: ' - .. .
