HUNT CLUB BALL
A SPECTACULAR FUNCTION The first Hunt Club Ball ever to be held in Whakatane which took place in the Winter Show Buildings on Wednesday evening was an unqualified success and members and the public generally are keenly anticipating next year’s function which it is claimed will be carried out on an even more lavish scale. The hall itself had never looked more attractive. Greenery, framed the walls on all sides and picturesque bowers of foliage were created at intervals by the simple expedient of attaching clipped ti-tree to movable trestles. The whole effect was one of charm and of balance.
Over the main floor a huge galaxy of streamers, reached from the walls to a central cdpola -which fairly blazed with colour as the rosy tints of hundreds of inflated balloons could be noted suspended against the ceiilng. The committee responsible are to be warmly congratulated on their work. The proceedings were opened with a grand march led by the deputy master, Mr G. Fogarty and Mrs Fogarty and was under the able control of Mr George Simmonds. Music throughout the evening was supplied by Freddie Burt’s orchestra which excelled' itself in modern and old-time numbers. Encores were the order and during the supper interval extras were provided. The ball attracted visitors from far and hear, ipembers from ( the parent (Opotiki) Club were prominent.
Supper was par excellence and a genuine credit to - the caterer, Mr Bell. A popular feature of the evening was the claret cup service.
