WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
MEETING AT MANAWAHE The September meeting of the Manawahe Women’s Institute was held in the hall on Thursday last at 11 a.m. Mrs Bowden presided over an average attendance and the meeting opened with the singing of the Ode to Friendship, followed by the Aspirations read by Miss Mikkelsen. Business was quickly dealt with and the roll call “A Quick Pudding” was well responded to. In the afternoon visitors were present from Otara, accompanied by a V.O. from Waimana who gave an interesting and instructive talk. r The visitors then demonstrated quilting and soft toy making. The quilting, when finished, was very attractive while the soft toys looked very cuddly. A travel talk, on a trip to Orakei Koraka, was given by one of the visitors and was greatly appreciated. Mrs Thompson was responsible for a written competition which was won by Mrs Bowden. Competitions for the day were:— Best flower: Miss Mikkelsen 1, Mrs Appleby 2. Best shrub: Mrs Wilding 1, Mrs King 2. 'Nut loaf in baking powder tin: Mrs Hopkins 1, Mrs King 2. Article from sugar bag: Mrs Bowmen 1, Mrs G. Logan 2. Hostess duties for the day were ably carried out by Mesdames Jones -and M. Logan. Throughout, the meeting proved very successful and all present were delighted with the -afternoon’s entertainment.
