Citizens Of N.Z.
The desire of European settlers in the Dominion to become citizens of New Zealand, a ‘procedure which was held in check during the war years, is indicated in a recent New Zealand Gazette which contains three full pages of names of those who have received certificates of naturalisation. Their countries of birth covered practically all European countries. Some in the Near East, the Far East, the Soviet Union and the United States were also represented. N.Z. Working Population “Instead of having only a working population of 397,000 in a total population of 1,676,286, or slightly more than 25 per cent., New Zealand should have at least 50 per cent, of the total population working both in the primary and secondary industries. If this was the case there would be greater contentment and happiness in the country and plenty of all the things we need,” stated Mr S. J. Sullivan, president of the Wanganui Employers’ Association, in a statement on industrial economy.
