WOMEN’S DIVISION

TE TEKO BRANCH AUGUST MEETING The August meeting of the Te Teko Women’s Division of Federated Farmers was held on Tuesday, August 12 with Mrs Thomas presiding over a record attendance of members. The meeting opened with the reading of the Creed and general discussion of plans for the birthday party ensued and it was finally decided not to hold the usual monthly meeting in September but to have the. birthday party on September 30. All members were urged to attend and to bring ample supplies for the flower and produce stalls. It was also decided not to have a birthday cake but to donate the cost of a cake to the “Food for Britain” fund. A committee meeting to finalise arrangements was called for September 9.

In reply to a request for information re the branch’s opinion the secretary was instructed to invite urging the adoption of the Free Library Service both by the Borough' Council and the County Council as it is felt that the present limited service does not meet the needs of the country people. Mrs Thomas then made a report on her visit to the conference but owing to lack of time full discussion of the remits was postponed until the October meeting. Birthday flowers were presented by Mrs Hutton to Mesdames Harty, Hendle and Gardner. Mrs. Thomas then welcomed four new members Mesdames W. Foote, 1 Hegge, Goss and Watson. The mystery parcel was won by Mrs Tony Smith and the tea cosy by Mrs F. Butler Jnr. The proceeds for the day amounted to £3 which sum will be donated to Provincial funds. The prize winners were:— Bowl of flowers: Mrs Hutton 1, Mrs Lyons 2. Best blossom: Mrs Hallet 1, Mrs Hutton 2. Afternoon tea served. by Mrs Hendle and Miss Linsell concluded a pleasant afternoon.. TANEATUA BRANCH / The August meeting of the Taneatua branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers was held in the hall supper room. In the absence of the president and secretary, Mrs Hill and Mrs Downes filled the positions. The meeting opened with the reciting of the Creed after which the minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. At the request of the acting president members stood in silence as a tribute to the memory of Mrs Yeoman, a foundation the Taneatua branch of the W.D.F.U.

Mrs Cannell, of Te Teko, who was the Bay of Plenty provincial delegate to the conference was present to give her report on the business of the conference. At the conclusion of a very clear and comprehensive report, Mrs Hill thanked Mrs Cannell on behalf of the members...

Mrs Cannell judged the competitions as follows;—

Hot water bottle cover: Mrs Grey 1, Mrs Hill 2. Single flower: Mrs Olliver 1, Mrs Hill 2, Mrs Reeves 3. Double flower: Mrs Grey 1, Mrs Olliver 2, Mrs Reeves 3. Shrub: Mrs Grey 1, Mrs Hill 2, Mrs Reeves 3.

Afternoon tea was served by Mrs Downes and Mrs Grey.
