WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MEETING AT OTAKIRI : . h . The August meeting of the Otakiri Women’s Institute was held at the hall, Mrs Peck presiding over a good attendance of members. - The meeting opened with the Ode to Friendship, the Aspirations and reading. The July minutes were read and adopted. A number of apologies were received and a large amount of correspondence dealt with. The remits for the half-year-ly meeting were gone over, instruction for voting etc. were to be given to the delegates. . Parcels for the Home Link was then discussed and it was decided to send a parcel each month. Mrs Peck said she hoped members would remember to bring along something each month as the Home Link had a membership of seventy. Pride of place for the afternoon was given to Mrs King, who very ably demonstrated to the members the icing of a cake, the finished article being greatly admired by all. The competitions for the month were:— *
Single flower: Mrs Lord 1, Mrs Peck 2, Mrs Gilbert 3. Double flower: Mrs Winters 1, Mrs Cobden 2, Mrs Mayo 3. Gems: Mrs Smith 1, Mrs Cobden 2, Mrs Mackrell 3. Vegetables: Mrs Cobden 1, Mrs Lord 2, Mrs Carr 3. Poker work: Mrs Peck 1, Mrs O’Sullivan 2. Banner for the R.P.C.C.: Miss Murray 1, Mrs Sandilands 2 ,Mrs Peck 3.
Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Woodberry, Cobden and Keir. The meeting then closed e with the National Anthem.
