GOLDEN JUBILEE
‘TAKEATUA DANCE LARGEST FUNCTION EVER The recent jubilee celebrations were wound up in right royal manner with a dance held in the Taneatua Hall at night. Never has Taneatua seen a bigger crowd than was present and never has there , been evident such a feeling of fellowship and* goodwill as prevailed throughout the evening. King’s Orchestra provided s the music and Mr F. Peebles was M.C. An extra by Miss Sykes and Mr and Mrs H. Skelton was very well received.
Songs were given by Mrs N. Carter and Mr Denham, while Mr Carpenter gave a recitation. As usual Mr Haeusler’s lightning sketches introducing local celebrities, literally brought the house down. The buffet supper served on tables hastily erected down the centre of the hall was something to marvel at and it could only have been the wonderful organisation which made it possible to provide for the immense crowd present and still have food over. Elderly guests were served in their seats from dinner waggons, a courtesy much appreciated by them. A lovely cake was on display and was cut by Mrs Parkinson. After supper had been served, Mr *C. Rogers, who taught at Opouriao and Taneatua for twenty years, spoke on the early days in the district.
The dance ended with the singing of Auld Lang Syne, a fitting conclusion to a day and evening which will long remain a happy memory to all those old pupils who were privileged to attend.
