FIRE IN ROOF

LAST NIGHT’S CALL LITTLE DAMAGE DONE Shortly after 10 p.m. last night a fire occurred at the residence of Mr F. G. Mahy, 26 Haig Street. Following the sounding of the siren the engine, manned by members of the Whakatane Volunteer Fire Brigade, was quickly on the scene. The seat of the fire was in the roof of the building near a chimney and the removal of some of the roofing iron was necessary before it could b dealt with. The fire had not got a serious hold and was quickly and efficiently subdued on the arrival of the engine, little damage being done.
