PILOT’S OWN MUSIC
THEME OF CONSTELLATIONS John Wooldridge, D. 5.0., D.F.C., D.F.M., ex-bomber pilot, will conduct the London Symphony Orchestra at the Norwich Festival in September in the first performance in England of his own symphonic poem, “The Constellations.” The music has no story, says Wooldridge. “It sets out to describe a human conception of the wonder and mysteries of the constellations, seen through the eyes of a night pilot.” The work, in a longer form, has already been performed in New York. It was written mainly on Wooldridge’s leaves between tours of bombing operations. He had to endure a great deal of good-natur-ed leg-pulling about it from his comrades.
Wooldridge also wrote the score for the film, “Fame Is the Spur,” due for release shortly.
