APPEAL TO FARMERS
HELP FOR BRITAIN DAIRY CHAIRMAN’S REMARKS Referring to the financial crisis through which Great Britain is now passing, Mr W. A. McCracken, at the annual meeting of suppliers to the Rangitaiki Plains Dairy Company yesterday said that all farmers would note that the- chairman of Federated Farmers had intimated to the N.Z. Government that his organisation would be available in any effort toward the relief of the Mother Country, the Government may think fit.
“It was a very necessary and helpful offer to make,” feaid Mr McCracken, “and although we can’t quite see how we will be called upon to fulfil it, it is very probable that it will be by employing more direct channels than those obtaining hitherto. There is one thing that we should not lose sight of however, and that is that any efforts made should be of a national nature in which all sections should be expected to share. This would only be fair, for in the event of the Old Country crashing, it would be a calamity which would be reflected in all parts of the Empire.”
As time went on, said Mr McCracken, the plans of the Government would be made known and he appealed to all farmers to co-operate to the utmost in •giving helpful and willing service to assist the Old Country in her crisis. After the stress of the war, and the magnificent example of the English people under the ‘blitz’ it wasi to be sincerely hoped that Britain would weather also her latest crisis and that her progress to better days would not be unduly prolonged.
