AN EXPLANATION

SATURDAY’S CURTAIN RAISER PRESIDENT’S STRONG TERMS When asked by a Beacon representative why there was not a curtain raiser to the big Rugby game at the Domain on Saturday, the Whakatane President, W. S. Henderson, stated that Paroa Juniors and Wairaka Juniors were drawn to play this curtain -raiser. He could not too strongly express his disgust with the clubs concerned. It looked to him like deliberate sabotage. He also was prepared to comment on the action of R. Laurie of the Paroa Club who, although not in the original selection, when asked by a selector to play for rep. blankly refused. Laurie was stripped for. a practise game and there seemed no excuse for his action. These matters will be the subject of an inquiry at the next Union meeting.
