ESTIMATES SOUGHT

CARS AND TRUCKS FOR EXSERVICEMEN In an endeavour to estimate exservicemen’s requirements of new cars and light trucks the Rehabilita tion Department is taking applications from eligible ex-servicemen who still wish to purchase such vehicles as a necessary part of their vocational re-establishment. The department is endeavouring to obtain the importation of additional vehicles to meet this demand. In making a statement to this effect the Department emphasises that the fact that an ex-serviceman applies will not guarantee he will receive an allocation with or without a Rehabilitation loan to purchase a vehicle. Applications, however, will assist the Department to find the number of ex-servicemen wishing to be catered for, and to treat applications in order of urgency as vehicles come forward. Ex-servicemen are urged to make their requirements known to their nearest Rehabilitation Office as early as possible.

Vehicles which are expected to become available will be mainly new heavy cars such as those suitable for taxi-cab businesses, and light trucks. Apart from purely vocational needs those of certain types of disabled ex-servicemen will also be considered.

Any vehicles obtained in this way will be additional to those obtained under the arrangements already made by the Department with the New Zealand Motor Retailers’ Association for preference supply to properly recommended ex-service-men. They will be limited in number and the Department emphasises that only application from men with a real need can be considered.
