RABBIT BOARD

FONGAKAWA MEETING ESTIMATE NOT YET APPROVED The August meeting of the Pongakawa Rabbit Board was held at Paengaroa on August 13. Present: Mr J. M. Blaymires (chairman) and - Messrs. M. B. McKenzie, A. H. Jam'ieson, R. F. Black, R. MacDougall, C. H. Davis and the secretary. An apology for absence was tendered on behalf of Mr D. J. Dennehy. Estimate The secretary reported that the Department had not yet approved the estimate of £360 to cover expenditure on State Forest land and the Inspector of Stock indicated that this was probably due to the fact that his Department would have to confer with the State Forest Department. Legislation The secretary stated that a reply had not been received from the Agriculture Department to the enquiry whether the Department would be submitting evidence to the Local Body Commission regarding Rabbit Boards. He was directed to write again.

The letter from Mr W. Sullivan, M.P., was tabled advising that he had no knowledge of any Bill which would come before Parliament with regard to nationalisation of Rabbit Boards, but he would see that the Board was advised immediately he received any reliable information. Award Conditions The Inspector was directed to see that the necessary cooking gear was made available to the men as required by the Award and if necessary he was authorised to purchase the equipment they were using at present. Financial The audited accounts for the year ended 31st March, 1947, were tabled and on the motion of Mr Black, seconded by Mr MacDougall, it was resolved that these be adopted. Bank overdraft at 12th August, 1947, £l36tf 16s 4d; P r O. Savings Bank at 12/8/47, £9 15s sd. Mr Jamieson moved, seconded by Mr Black, that payments between meetings as listed on the Agenda Paper totalling £466 19s 6d be approved. Accounts passed for payment totalled £94 7s 3d.
