Dear Sir,

FOOTBALL SELECTION i Sir,—No doubt there are quite a number of those interested in the good old game of Rugby wondering exactly how the three gentlemen who select the local senior representative team came to their conclusions regarding their latest effort.

To one, who has seen all the players on the field, its appears that their first thought was the United team and their second to find anybody at least twice as good to replace the lesser members of that team. For a club team to have nine members in the reps, is no mean feat, but when it is considered that, that team was defeated by another club which has only-one representative must make even the most hard-boiled Whakatane supporter wonder. Of course, while wondering, he would realise what :a boon it would be to United to have those men fit for the following Saturday. He possibly would also wonder why some players who had played in every representative game of the season were not even present in the host of emergencies.

The selectors must realise thst in putting them in their position Rugby followers have placed in their hands a trust which they don’t expect (and certainly won’t tolerate for another season) to be abused so glaringly. Yours etc., FOOTBALL FAN.
