BADMINTON
INTER-CLUB MATCH TAURANGA. v AWAKERI Despite the weather conditions quite a crowd gathered at the Awakeri Hall on Saturday last to' watch the inter-club Badminton matches between Tauranga and Awakeri. All games were very keenly contested, and the matches ended in a draw, in both games as well as points. Details are as follows, Tauranga names being mentioned first in each
case:— Men’s Doubles: Johnson and Kirk I lost, to G. Sutton and J. Barr 9-21; Dyer and Gammin beat F. Jensen and M. Jensen 21-20; Kirk and Peace lost to R. Andrews and S. Luttrell 14-21. I Ladies’ Doubles: Mrs Jones and Mrs Kirk lost to Mrs Rust and J. Graham 2-21; Mrs Kirk and V. Hassall beat M. Boulcott and E." Boulcott 21-11; J. McKenzie and I. Matherson beat B. Luttrell and B. Newaick 21-10. J Combined Doubles: Mrs Jones and Gammin beat Mrs Rust and G. Sutton 21-10; Mrs Jones and Johnston lost to M. Boulcott and N. Jensen 15-21; Mrs Kirk and Dyer beat E. Boulcott and F. Jensen 21-16; V. Hassall and Peace beat J. Graham and J. Barr 21-16; I. McKenzie and Kirk lost to B. Newdick and R. Andrews 19 21; I. Matheson and Peace lost to B. Luttrell and S. Luttrell. ' On behalf of the Awakeri Club, Mr F. Jensen thanked the Tauranga players for coming such a long distance, and expressed the hope that they had enjoyed their evening. Keith Dyer suitably replied, and , said that he hoped next year to see Badminton played on a much larger scale in New Zealand.
