RIFLE SHOOTING

MINIATURE CLUB CADETS v JUNIOR CLUB The Junior Rifle Club held a challenge shoot against the High School Cadets on Saturday, August 9. The shoot was held on the Club’s Valley Road range at 9.30 a.m. with three members of the Legion of Frontiersmen supervising proceedings. The scores were as follows:

High 'School Cadets: W* Kirk 24 22; J. Prince 22—23; B. Skelton 23 22; K. Carter 21—23; G. Skelton 22 —2O; J. Chadwick 19—22. Total 263. Junior Rifle Club Boys ‘A’ Team: B. M. Thomas 25—24; M. Whittaker 22—24; D. Howat 23—23; P. Francis 22—23; B. C. Thomas 23—20; M. Brown 21—20. Total 270. Junior Rifle Club Girls’ Team: V. Woods 24—21; V. Hannah 22—23; M. Coates 23—20; A. Bath 22—20; V. Brown 19—21; J. Barker 19—17. Total 251.

Junior Rifle Club Boys ‘B’ Team: E. Kane 23—23; N. Judd 22—23; D McKenzie 25—20; J. Low 21—22; W Finucane 21—21; K. Judd 17—19. Total 257.

After the serious shooting, all hands were treated to an attractive morning tea provided by the club. To finish off a most enjoyable shoot, impromptu teams took part in a ‘battle practice’ in which small steel plates are shot at with more haste than accuracy. Members are still hoping to receive challenges from interested groups in the district.
