LEGION OF FRONTIERSMEN

DOMINION CONFERENCE TO BE HELD IN WHAKATANE News has been received by Y Squadron (Whakatane) of the Legion of Frontiersmen that the 1949 conference of the organisation will be held in Whakatane. This will mean that about 200 members and their wives will be visiting the town and is a great honour, which members of the local squadron fully realise. Record Of Service The Legion is doing good work though much of it has not come into the public notice. The most recent instance was at the Bay v. Auckland rep. match. The Legionairres, in their picturesque uniforms, handled the large volume of traffic in an expert manner and were responsible for the smooth flow of traffic both in and out of the Domain.

The services of the Legion for the purpose of traffic control during fires have recently been accepted by the Whakatane Volunteer Fire Brigade. They are offering their services for traffic control and other duties to any non-profit organisations and will welcome .enquiries. The Junior Rifle Club, which is operating successfully, is sponsored by the Legion and a number of young people of both sexes are gaining a large amount of useful recreation from it.
