Four new members were enrolled, Mesdames Wales, Woolliams Jnr.. KingsleySmith and Mrs Stenhouse on transfer from Hamilton City Branch. The speaker for the afternoon was Canon Fraser, who took as his text “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God” illustrating his remarks by relating the life story of a Bishop with whom he was associated for some years. It was while a student at Oxford University and at that time a leader of a fast set, the text first made its impression through the Moody, Sankey Mission. The young man who later became a Bishop took the text as his life motto, endeavouring always to keep it before him and worked untiringly for the extension of God’s Kingdom. The speaker also said that the Bishop’s mother had prayed unceasingly for him. This he stressed was what all mothers could and should do for their children. Mrs Metcalfe moved a vote of thanks to Canon Fraser remarking that we would all do well to take the text as our life motto. The meeting ended with the singing of the National Anthem.
